Description

This Winchester Model 1892 lever-action rifle, expertly modified by Stembridge Gun Rentals, Inc., was one of Hollywood’s iconic “Henry” conversions used across multiple western productions. Originally manufactured in the early 1900s, this rifle was restyled to resemble the legendary 1860 Henry for cinematic authenticity — a hallmark of Stembridge’s craftsmanship seen in countless Western classics.

The included Certificate of Authenticity, signed by Syd Stembridge, confirms this rifle’s use in The High Chaparral and by assorted actors. Copies of original rental invoices further document its on-screen appearances in The High Chaparral (1970), Shame, Shame on the Bixby Boys (1977), The Last Ride of the Dalton Gang (1978), and The Long Riders (1980). In The Long Riders, actor Stacy Keach, portraying Frank James, can be seen wielding a rifle matching this configuration in several key scenes.

Stembridge’s modifications include brass-plating the receiver, nickel-finishing most metal components, and adding a Henry-style false magazine follower with a receiver extension. The walnut stock was replaced with a straight-grip configuration and steel shotgun-style buttplate for film practicality. This rifle is a true relic of Hollywood’s golden era of westerns, offering collectors a rare opportunity to own a tangible piece of silver screen history.
