Description

Eddystone Pattern 1914 .303 Rifle. An American-produced rifle for the British military who found themselves short on rifles in the early days of WWI, the 1914 is the .303 father of the more famous US Model of 1917 Rifle. This example was produced by Eddystone around early 1916. Condition is good. The whole rifle shows signs of arsenal work, as many of these do, and all metal parts are quite thickly finished. Some spots of browning are present, most notably on the bolt handle, and there is some service wear on most surfaces. Wood is mostly good, although there is a section of damage immediately in front of the rear barrel band. Action works well and bore is nice and shiny. The space immediately above the chamber used for identification marks is oddly polished away, leaving a bright bronze spot. These are fairly rare rifles in their .303 configuration and would be an interesting piece of any collection.
