Orville W. Ainsworth inspected Colt Single Action Army. 7 1/2" barrel with blade sight. "Bullseye" ejector head. Left side of the frame is stamped "US." Trigger guard below the serial number is stamped "A," referring to the principal sub-inspector Orville W. Ainsworth. Pistol shows all correct inspector marks, with "C" on cylinder slot, "P" on cylinder with both "S" and "P" on rear surface. Bottom of the barrel is marked with "P" and "A" inspection marks. "C" is found under the ejector housing. Frame, grip straps, barrel, and cylinder have matching numbers. Pistol is fitted with one piece walnut grips, left panel has an "OWA" Ainsworth cartouche. Approximately 12,500 revolvers were inspected by Ainsworth from July 23, 1873 through November 7, 1874. This revolver was manufactured in 1874. Condition is very good plus. Metal has cleaned-off gray appearance showing scattered surface corrosion on the barrel. Grips are sanded and slightly undersize with reapplied oil finish. Action is in time, bore has sharp rifling.
